Global Visions Film Festival 2004

Nov 4-7, 2004
Edmonton, Alberta

Thanks for Another Great Year

Well, the 2004 festival is over, and it was a record-breaking year for us. We had 8 sold-out shows, attendance was up 60% from last year, and it was our largest audience ever. Thanks very much to all our volunteers - they did a great job handling our increased audience.

Audience Award Winner

The audience has spoken, and the winner of this year's Audience Award is Shake Hands With the Devil, Peter Raymont's film about Romeo Dallaire's journey back to Rwanda. Last year, the Audience Award went to Eva Colmer's film The Enemy Within, about German POWs in Canada.

Check back in a few weeks to find out who won our Jury Award (the jury is still deliberating).

Monthly Screenings in 2005

We'll be kicking off our new season of Monthly Doc Screenings on January 12, 2005. At 7pm, we're bringing back The End of Suburbia, one of our sold-out shows from this year's festival. We're presenting this screening with the Parkland Institute, and Boiling Frog.

At 9pm, we'll screen The Agronomist, Jonathan Demme's documentary about Jean Dominique, a Haitian radio personality, investigative journalist, and political activist who was assassinated in April 2000.

Both screenings will be at the Metro Cinema, on Wednesday, January 12th.

We also have plans to bring back What Remains Of Us in the spring of 2005. This was our sold-out opening night show from this year's festival, with a line around the block. Check back later for more details.
