Welcome to the 2006 Global Visions Film Festival
Global Visions continues to champion alternative media through the art of documentary film. We aim to engage our community with social and environmental issues globally, nationally and locally. We search for the best documentary art form. The Festival screens new films on current issues or on issues that continue to be relevant. This being our 25th anniversary we will screen some films from our history.
This year's theme, SHADES OF REALITY, will look at forces that affect the realities of people around the world. Documentary films give us the context in which we can examine globalization and individual struggles as well as the pursuit of justice as they impact and change the social construction of reality. Perceptions of reality may be limited or enlarged by nature and by spirit but they are manipulated by and for society. This year's program will take you to specific communities around the world, immerse you in their realities and awaken your understanding of change.

Shades of 2006
As many of you know, our organization has been experiencing financial problems and have had to struggle to produce this year's festival. We have pulled together and will present the Festival with the best of our ability. Even though we have a full program, there are areas of our programming that will suffer Ð we cannot afford to bring in as many Film Directors as we would like other than the two who live here and those brought in by the National film Board of Canada. We had planned to produce a 25th anniversary book but have not had the resources - we will try to do that in retrospect.
The struggle is not over and you can help - bring your friends and family and join us as we celebrate our 25th anniversary. We are very pleased to be moving UP-TOWN to Empire Theatres and to offer you a special anniversary program.
