In keeping with the aim of providing educational, inspirational and thought provoking media, it is with great excitement that I welcome Edmonton and area youth to the festivalÕs 6th annual Youth Media Arts Day! The Youth Media Arts Program was initiated in 2000 endeavoring to provide young people with a forum for thought and discussion on global issues as well as a venue to feature documentary film created by youth. The past five years have showcased youth produced and youth oriented documentary film, video, multimedia, radio and print media work, and has provided an environment where young people can learn how to get involved with various community based organizations.
This year we are proud to once again partner with FAVA and the Canada Arts Council to present Future Visions IV Š a selection of shorts created by some of EdmontonÕs finest young creative minds. These young filmmakers will be presenting their films and be available for a Q and A period to discuss the process of film creation under the direction of local filmmaker and mentor Tim Folkman.
Our program for Friday November 3rd includes youth speakers, artists and panel of local youth based organizations; we will also be screening a feature documentary film. Through this we aim to promote thought and discussion among the youth based audience.
I encourage educators, students, young activists and artists to come out and share information, engage in thought provoking discussion, and support the exploration of media art through this program and throughout the Global Visions Festival.
Sincerely,
Nazli Izmirli
