2007 Festival Global Marketplace

As a central component of the festival, the marketplace aims to educate, inspire, and empower patrons through its inclusion of informative exhibits and independent vendors.

The Marketplace is located in the foyer of the Stanley Milner Library Theatre and adjoining Centennial Room.

Hours of operation are Saturday from 11am - 7pm, and Sunday from 1pm - 9pm.

Food will also be sold on-site by the restaurants Padmanadi, which serves Indonesian vegetarian cuisine and Mebrat Cafe which serves authentic African and Eritrean uisine.

Alberta Council for Global Cooperation (Marketplace Sponsor)

The Alberta Council for Global Cooperation (ACGC) is a coalition of voluntary sector organizations located in Alberta, working both locally and globally to achieve sustainable human development. ACGC is committed to international cooperation that is people-centred, democratic, just, inclusive, and respectful of the environment and indigenous cultures. We work towards ending poverty and achieving a peaceful and healthy world, with dignity and full participation for all. Members of the Council pursue these goals through supporting global citizenship programs and participatory projects with international projects. ACGC's goal is to support the work of its members through networking, leadership, information sharing, training and coordination, and represents their interests when dealing with government and others.

Action for Healthy Communities

AHC is a registered charitable organization; a society that supports and empowers individuals and groups to take on actions to improve community health and well being. AHXC provides support in the following key areas: Community Organizing, Project planning, Networking, Resources and Budgeting. AHC staff train and coach individuals and groups to create and foster community building activities.

Ainembabazi Children’s Project

Established in 2005, Ainembabazi Children’s Project is dedicated to advancing the human rights and well-being of orphaned and vulnerable children affected by AIDS pandemic. ACP undertakes activities in the areas of health, business development and income generation, education and other areas of community development.

Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a worldwide activist movement that works to prevent violations of people's basic civil and human rights by governments or other groups. We campaign to free all prisoners of conscience (provided they do not advocate violence), to ensure fair, prompt trials, to abolish the death penalty, torture, end political killings and disappearances.

Catholic Social Services, HOST Program

Canadian HOST volunteers are matched with newcomers to Canada for six months. HOSTs are knowledgeable friends helping newcomers practice speaking English, find community resources, and resolve everyday "how-to" concerns. 424-3545.

Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society Northern Alberta

CPAWS Northern Alberta is a citizens' voice for maintaining wilderness and biodiversity in Alberta through collaboration, research and community outreach.

Changing Together...A Centre for Immigrant Women

Founded in 1984, Changing Together is a nonprofit, charitable organization operated by immigrant women for immigrant women. Our mission is to help Edmonton and area immigrant women and their families overcome personal and systemic barriers that keep them from participating fully in Canadian Society.

CAUSE Canada

CAUSE Canada is an International Relief and Development Organization which strives to empower communities and individuals in disadvantaged regions to overcome poverty and improve quality of life. In 2005 CAUSE Kids was born with the vision to provide quality education and endless opportunities to eager children in Sierra Leone, West Africa, through the support and involvement of Canadians. CAUSE Kids is a program where Canadian's can make a real difference and children can receive the future they deserve.

The Child is Innocent Foundation

The Child Is Innocent Foundation is committed to providing children in Northern Uganda with quality education by raising money and attracting sponsors to pay for education at boarding schools. Our display contains information on our program and its aims, brochures and beaded necklaces made in Uganda for sale.

Debra Belmonte

We are supporting a women's cooperative in Baao which at present is informally administered by "Bidibidi" with the assistance and participation of my family. The cooperative is in the process of receiving some government funding and moving to a permanent building location. We are happy to support these efforts and to assist in the exploration of new designs and reaching new clientele. Current products include hand-beaded jewellery using Philippine pearls, glass, other native, and semiprecious materials.

Dignitas International - University of Alberta chapter

Dignitas International is a medical humanitarian organization whose sole aim is maximizing access to AIDS and tuberculosis treatment and prevention through widespread adoption of community-based care in the developing world.

Edmonton Small Press Association

The ESPA is a non-profit activist-arts organization with a socially-conscious mandate that is committed to fostering active citizenship and the development of independent small press initiatives; we believe that small press initiatives are valuable tools for positive social change and are therefore valuable to global culture. We are community cultural development and independent-media advocates, and we distribute socially-conscious, independently-produced, environmentally-friendly, fairly-traded and/or union-made merchandise.

Solidaritees

Solidaritees Studio was established in 2006 by two Edmonton artists who want to expand the imposing and reductive vision of today's mainstream culture by engaging people through alternative clothing and print media. Solidaritees aims to highlight connections between what we live today and what is forgotten by telling the stories that are ignored. These stories are told respectfully through visual representations that honour the messages and memory of fallen leaders, poets and folksingers from what is called "the global south."

STAND for Darfur

STAND for Darfur is a grassroots coalition of students that are focused on raising awareness about the genocide in Sudan's Darfur region and ending this crisis.

Tools for Humanity

Tools for Humanity is a non-profit Canadian community-based organization and humanitarian service. Tools for Humanity is dedicated to focus on the root causes of poverty, refugees, civil wars and famine globally. It is working to achieve a holistic approach to inter-community knowledge base capacity building and community economic development solutions.
