"...we've got to be steeped in lusty compassion and ecstatic duty, ingenious love and insurrectionary beauty. We need radical curiosity and reverent pranks, voracious listening and ferocious thanks..."
Rob Brezsny
I love this quote because it speaks to being fully alive as a human being. Global Visions does too, which is why it has been a defining part of my life since I discovered it in 1997. After five incredible years as GVFF Producer/Director, I went on to immerse myself in independent film production and work at FAVA (Film & Video Arts Society) to feed a GVFF cultivated hunger for motion picture storytelling. For the last two years, my position as Development Coordinator at Change for Children Association has put me in the throws of International community development, another interest cultivated by GVFF.
Global Visions encompasses all my passions and values - local community organizing, active global listening, documentary cinema, art, culture, social action, friends, laughter, intelligent conversation, ethnic food, wine drinking.....it doesn't get much richer or real than Global Visions!
A FEW Top festival moments:
Seeing my mother, from Sedgewick, AB, talking passionately with Palagummi Sainath, award-winning journalist and author from India.
Sharing a glass of wine with civil rights activist (and one of the Little Rock Nine) Minnie Jean Brown Tricky while the film about her life played in Metro Cinema
Seeing Sonya Thompson (founder of the GVFF Youth Media program) taking GVFF guest Sam Gregory (from Witness in New York City) to the Canadian Rodeo Finals. (He went home in a wolf sweat top given to him by a guy in the Naked Cyber Cafe)
The party in the Tucker Amphitheatre where the first crew of the new GVFF Society celebrated an enormous success with FEAST pumping out the funk that sent us into a dancing bliss! That crew: Bill Evans, Teressa Johnson, Mridula Chakrabartty, Tonia LaRiviere, Derek Clayton, Marc Piquette, Prakash David......
