Description

Marc Kuly, a charismatic young teacher at Gordon Bell High School in downtown Winnipeg takes it upon himself to see if he can help bridge the cultural and historical differences that separate the various immigrant students from one another and from their Canadian classmates. Using Ishmael Beah's international best seller , A Long Way Gone; Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, as a catalyst, Kuly initiates an after school story project whereby students voluntarily come together to tell each other stories. The results of these meetings with one another and then with Ishmael Beah and his adoptive mother, professional storyteller Laura Simms, are as surprising as they are inspiring.
