Description

The gunfire of the First World War still echoed in the hearts of men when representatives of 30 nations gathered in Paris in 1919 to forge a new and peaceful world. The negotiations, led by the leaders of the U.S., France, Great Britain and Italy, were supposed to end war forever. Instead, the legacy of the talks was a disastrous blueprint for the political upheavals, from the Balkans to the Mideast, that even now bedevil our world. Inspired by Margaret McMillans landmark book, director Paul Cowan seamlessly blends re-enactments with archival images in a masterful example of bringing popular history to life. This film thoughtfully reflects on what might have been and the opportunities that were tragically missed when the world gathered and failed to refashion itself.
